Trail Run Log: Stanley Park, Vancouver

We're running for the trails in our new KEEN trail runners – and we're sharing our favorite places to go. Check back for more trail run reports from KEENers around the world.

My Run Log

Location: Stanley Park in Vancouver, Canada
Distance: 4 miles
Shoes worn: KEEN Seek trail runners
Hydration: Post-run water at hotel
Post-run nutrition: Veggie curry ramen at nearby Maruhachi Ra-men (so good!)

Stanley Park has nearly 17 miles of forest trails – right in the city! When I realized it was close to my hotel, even nonstop pouring rain couldn't keep me from checking it out. I ran from Lost Lagoon toward the sea wall and tea house, and just sort of hopped on trails that looked interesting along the way. Most were doubletrack, multi-use gravel trails. Cathedral Trail had an elevated boardwalk through a lush wetland area, Rawlings Trail was a main trail with very little elevation, and Lovers Walk Trail made me smile.

Favorite Part:
The view of English Bay at Ferguson Point.

Toughest Part:
Operating my GPS watch in the pouring rain as I tried not to get lost.

Personal Takeaway:
Canadians seemed unfazed by the rain, and almost everyone I saw was wearing shorts even though it was a pretty chilly day. I realized why: less material to get drenched!

My Shoes:
I wore my Seek trail running shoes. I love the cushioning and secure fit. Although they aren't waterproof, somehow my feet were less wet than the rest of me.

Other Gear:
When I am running alone, especially in a new area, I always bring my phone for safety and navigation. So I wore my favorite Patagonia tights that have a convenient phone pocket. I also wore a waterproof jacket that I need to treat with Nikwax PFAS-free waterproof spray based on how wet I got. :)

Pro Tips:
If you are there on a clear day, the view from Ferguson Point is apparently one of Vancouver's best spots to catch the sunset.
