FAQ: WK400 vs WK450 Walking Shoe?

Our patented KEEN.CURVE™ technology in the WK400 walking shoe started a walking revolution by balancing plate technology, midsole cushioning, and constant curve geometry to create a unique rolling feeling that makes walking more fun.

After three years and nearly 10,000 hours of design and development, we discovered that the geometry of the curve can be tuned to support the different ways that we walk. More curve and more momentum while walking for exercise; less curve for casual walking and just being on our feet all day.

And, in a nutshell, that's the difference between our WK400 (more curve) and WK450 (less curve) walking shoes. But if you are still unsure about which walking shoe is right for you, we shoe-geeked out and pulled together a deeper dive:

As you can see in the chart above, it's not only about the curve. Cushioning and support are optimized for each shoe's curve geometry and the fluid heel-to-toe movement it creates.

WK400: For Walking as Exercise

The WK400 was specifically designed for the biomechanics of walking. After badly breaking his leg while skiing, our Director of Innovation, Rory Fuerst Jr., discovered the power of walking to solve problems and set out to create a shoe that better supports how humans walk.

More people walk than any other outdoor activity. We designed the curve geometry of the WK400 to help more people enjoy the physical and mental benefits of getting outside and walking. Fans love the sensation of forward momentum and responsive cushioning when getting their steps in: "I walk 8 miles a day, 5 days a week. These are the most comfortable shoe." - KEEN Fan Earl H

The WK400 features a contoured, athletic fit, asymmetrical laces, and is available in leather, waterproof, and non-waterproof styles. Shop it here.

WK450: For Walking Around

In case all that high school geometry didn't stick with you, the 450 in WK450 stands for the curve angle. The higher the number, the flatter and more elongated the curve.

Going from a 400 to 450 curve enabled us to create just-right momentum and comfort for being on your feet all day – from working to running errands to walking the dog. We added a little more stability and shock-absorption for all-day wear.

Like the WK400, the WK450 features a contoured, athletic fit, and is available as a shoe or a sandal (hello, summer!). Grab yours here.
